Deaf Enterprises was established in 1987 as a response to the high rates of unemployment that existed amongst the Deaf Community at that time. Since that time the organisation has grown from having just one employee to our present level of twelve.

The organisation is Community based and the members of the voluntary board of directors bring with them expertise from many areas including business, IT, and community work.

During the past years28 over 100 Deaf People from all parts of Ireland have benefited from the training provided at Deaf Enterprises and many have progressed to other open employment and to self-employment.

The training and employment offered at Deaf Enterprises centres mainly on the restoration of furniture and in particular Re-Upholstery and French Polishing.

All trainees participate in a 4-year training program, which is approved and accredited by FAS.  Following the successful completion of training the newly qualified Upholsterer or French Polisher will generally have the choice of full time employment with Deaf Enterprises of taking employment with other employers.

A total approach to communication is practised within Deaf Enterprises and consists mainly of Irish Sign Language (ISL) along with spoken and written English.

The key objectives of Deaf Enterprises are Quality and Enterprise. The organisation strives towards providing the best service possible to clients (The Deaf Community) and customers (members of the public who avail of our furniture restoration business).
People seeking training or employment with Deaf Enterprises can contact us using the contact details shown on our home page.
